KNOXVILLE ? Trae Golden tied his career high with 29 points as Tennessee held off Chattanooga 76-63 on Monday night.
Golden, who had surgery on Friday to repair a fracture in his nose, was 11 for 17 from the field and 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Golden, who entered the game leading the Volunteers with an average 13 points per game, has played in every game since his nose was broken during a practice drill on Dec. 16.
The Vols (7-6) were a combined 13 of 39 from 3, getting 16 points from Skylar McBee and 12 from Jordan McRae. Their bench outscored the Mocs reserves 24-4.
Tennessee scored the first seven points of the game as Chattanooga hit only one of its first eight shots.
The game quickly turned into a 3-point shooting contest between the two teams. The Vols had taken a 16-9 lead on a trey by Renaldo Woolridge with 9:23 in the first half, when the Mocs' shots started to fall.
McRae fouled Ricky Taylor behind the arc, and Taylor hit all three foul shots to launch a 14-0 run. Taylor hit a pair of 3s and Keegan Bell added one of his own during the stretch that gave Chattanooga a 23-16 lead with 6:47 before halftime.
Tennessee got a trio of 3s from McBee that helped the Vols regain the lead, which they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game. The third basket in the set launched a 17-3 run for the Vols just before halftime, and they held a 44-32 lead at the break.
Omar Wattad hit a pair of 3s and Bell hit another to help the Mocs pull within 46-41 with 17:48 to play. McRae followed with his only trey, and the Mocs would get no closer as they failed to hit a field goal in the final 6 minutes of the game.
Taylor scored 17 points for Chattanooga (6-9), which is now 0-7 on the road this season. Wattad added 16 points, Bell had 15 and Drazen Zlovaric had 11 points for Chattanooga, which shot just 34.5 percent for the game but hit 11 of 26 from 3.
The Vols have put together a four-game winning streak after a rough stretch in late November and early December that saw them lose six of seven. They have a quick turnaround before their Wednesday rematch at in-state rival Memphis, which beat Tennessee 99-97 in double overtime at the Maui Invitational on Nov. 22.

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. ? Investigators were working Saturday to identify a body found in a forest a few miles from a missing police dispatcher's home, but the dispatcher's family said they were all but certain it was her.
Authorities would not say whether they think the body searchers found was that of 46-year-old Dawna Natzke. But her sister, Debbie Shingler, said her family think's it her, even though they haven't seen the body.
"It's not confirmed to be Dawna, but we all know," she told The Associated Press.
Natzke, a mother of three, was last seen leaving a Dec. 21 Christmas party with her 28-year-old boyfriend, Kevin Duck. According to police, Duck told detectives the two of them returned to her home in Hot Springs Village that night, and that she wasn't there when he awoke the next morning. It wasn't until Dec. 23, when Natzke failed to show up for work, that she was reported missing.
Although there are security gates at each of the central Arkansas town's entrances, there are no video cameras that would have recorded her leaving the community of 13,000 that caters to retirees.
Volunteer searchers found the body in a remote part of a forest 5.5 miles from where Natzke's burned-out station wagon turned up in Ouachita National Forest, Garland County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. James Martin said. Authorities hadn't yet searched the area. Police went to Natzke's mother's home at about 10 a.m. to let the family know a body had been found.
"I'm not aware of but one missing person in this area up here," said A.L. Cornett, the police and fire chief in Hot Springs Village, where Natzke has worked for years. "Some suspicions are very strong, but again, until we get confirmation, we don't know who this is."
Authorities wouldn't describe the condition of the body, but Martin said foul play is suspected in the death. Crime scene tape stretched across pine trees blocked access to the area, including a pond.
"They don't want to speculate anything until after the crime lab has done their investigation," Shingler said. "I am sure if it wasn't (Natzke's body), they would be calling us."
Police have not named any suspects in the disappearance of Natzke, who had recently separated from her husband.
Duck didn't return a phone message left Saturday at his mother's home. His cell phone number, which went to a voicemail on Friday, had been disconnected by Saturday.
Shingler, the oldest of four sisters, said both of her other sisters were in Arkansas because of their youngest sister's disappearance. One flew in Saturday.
"I had to tell her when her plane landed" that a body had been found, Shingle said.

Sadly, after only one month of wedded bliss, Keasha Ruteleage-Draft succumbed to her battle with cancer on December 27, 2011.
Their short lived marriage does not negate the love that was evident between the two.

SEATTLE (Reuters) ? A heavily armed gunman shot and killed a ranger in Mount Rainier National Park on Sunday after fleeing a traffic stop, and authorities closed the park in Washington state as a manhunt got underway, officials said.
With the gunman on the loose, scores of visitors were trapped in the park on the west side of the snow-capped Cascade mountain range and were preparing to hunker down for the night, park officials said.
The ranger, a 34-year-old mother of two young children, was killed after she stopped the gunman's vehicle at a roadblock shortly after another ranger tried to stop the same car about a mile away, park spokesman Kevin Bacher said in a statement.
"The suspect fled and is still at-large on foot," Bacher said. "We are now confirming that park ranger Margaret Anderson has been shot and killed at Mount Rainier National Park."
The shooting came on an unseasonably mild New Year's holiday that saw visitors flock to the park, which welcomes around 2 million visitors a year, for popular winter activities including snowboarding and cross-country skiing.
Those trapped after nightfall in the park, about 80 miles southeast of Seattle, included about 125 visitors and 18 staff who were being held inside a visitor center until it was deemed safe to leave,
"They're safe and secure where they are," park spokeswoman Lee Taylor said. "I don't know how long we're going to ask them to stay there. We certainly don't want them driving down the road if there's a gunman who might take a pot shot at them."
Ranger Lee Snook said the visitors would sleep on the concrete floor in the Jackson Visitor Center's basement, and were sustaining themselves on pizza and hot dogs from the center's cafe.
"It's probably not going to be a comfortable night, but we have food, water, heat, and it's the best option," Snook said.
Outside, law enforcement officers were using infrared equipment that can detect body heat to hunt down the gunman, but Snook said it had been deemed too risky to move out the stranded visitors.
ON LOCKDOWN, BUT GETTING FED
Andrew Bunning, a front desk clerk at the 25-room National Park Inn where park visitors often stay, told Reuters that all park visitors including hotel guests were on lockdown.
"Everyone is staying safe," Bunning said. "Right now, we're trying to get everyone fed."
A Pierce County sheriff's spokesman told Seattle's KIRO-7 news that law enforcement had named Benjamin Colton Barnes, 24, as a person of interest who could be involved in the shooting and who may be heavily armed with assault rifles and body armor.
The King County Sheriff's office said the same man was also wanted for questioning in a shooting at a New Year's party earlier in the day at a house in Skyway, just outside of Seattle, in which four people were shot and wounded.
"Witnesses said multiple persons at the party were armed and had a "show and tell" with their guns," the sheriff's office said in a statement, adding that a shootout erupted following an argument over a weapon.
Numerous rounds were fired but the sheriff's department said authorities did not know how many people fired their weapons or who had initiated the gunfire. Three people fled the scene before police arrived.
Detectives had managed to locate two of those people and had been working with the family of the third to persuade him to come forward and talk to police, but later learned that he had been named as a person of interest in the park shooting.
Officials could not say why rangers had tried to stop the gunman's car at the 368-square-mile national park, home to two national park lodges. The FBI was assisting in the manhunt, park officials said.
Park authorities described Anderson, the ranger who was killed, as a committed public servant who was married to another ranger.
"So it's a horrible tragedy. It's a terrible loss of life of somebody who had dedicated herself to serving the public," the park spokeswoman, Taylor, told CNN.
